Do We Need Spiritual Master?
Who Is Master:-
As being Indian we relates word 'Master' with the typical Hindi word 'Guru'. Master is someone who shows us the righteous path to walk on. The path which may have some difficulties. Some people say and I personally feel that a spiritual master shows us the path up-to the doors of God. Master may be anyone a book, a living or dead person, or nature.
Importance of Master:-
Any religion, whether it is of Indian Subcontinent or other, defines the goal of human's life as the union of God and himself. Some say we all are derived from the God and at the end we will be merged in him. Swami Vivekananda in his famous Chicago speech says, "As the different stream having their sources in different places, all kneel their water in the sea, so oh lord different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear crooked or straight, all lead to thee". And also Lord Krishna explain Arjuna in Gita that, "Whosoever come to me through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me."
So here in two statements the path is referring to religion. And these different paths have their master like Pope for Christians, Dalai lama for Tibetan Buddhist, Shankracharya for Hindus, Guru Granth Saheb for Sikhs and so on. The religion may have different sects and these sects having their own master. But aim of all these masters is to help their pupils to walk on the righteous path and reach there.
Do We Really Need Master:-
Now several people will have different views on this question and we will consider some of the views according to sects of people. Firstly what atheist think of this, atheist is sect which questions the very existence of God. They may be materialistic(one who does things in order to fulfill his desires) or they can be ethical(one who believes that as far as I am correct I do not need any supernatural power to help me). So atheist will always say,"I do not need any master and why do we need any, we don't even believe in this crap." Some religion like Sikhism believes that our holy book(Guru Granth Saheb) is our only Guru or Master, they believe no human can be our Master who is still in search of enlightment or liberation.
I personally feel that we all need Guru or Master to guide us on the right path. The thing that I like most about our culture is that we all have common goals i.e union with the supreme, whereas western culture believes only in the fulfillment of desires.
Selection of Master:-
This is dark age as we say it kaliyuga. In this dark age we can easily find the large numbers of fake masters who are doing business in the shed of religion and spreading hatred among different groups and religion. So we should be very careful while selecting our Guru or Master. In-fact you doesn't need to go in search of Master, it is said that we automatically get attracted to aura of right master but you have to be careful. It is quite debatable question, who to pick, why to pick and when to pick as your Master.
Conclusion:-
This beautiful life is a journey which starts from zero and ends at zero some people call this zero as God which is still and stable. Whether we believe in God or not but we need spiritual master who can explain us the purpose of life. No matter how much science has evolved and how much it would evolve, science can never give the answer to the question "Why are we here". Most of the spiritual master have one answer to the question of purpose of our existence and i.e "Serving Humanity and Mankind". So whether you follow the master or not, you should serve the humanity as much as you can. And one more thing that I wanna add is, human is a social animal, he deals with society and is surrounded by different type of people, And way he percieve things around him is greatly affected by his society, here society means his friend circle, his parents and people to which he interacts in his day to day life. Due to this reason he has limited scope of thinking, analysing and percieving objects around, so he needs one person in his life who has tasted the water of every bank to guide him and who else can do this job better than his experienced MASTER.
